First Nation Safari

4 hours
Departure: 8:30 AM and/ or 3:30 PM from Campbell River

Starting: February 1, 2010

Captain Tom Sewid is a First Nations that has lived and worked the waters of Northern Vancouver Island all his life. He has been a commercial fisherman, hunting guide, sport fishing guide, and a man who chose to live out in the bush making his living for many years. Discovery Marine Safaris is proud to have a man with so much experience working with our operations.

On any of our adventure packages one will see and experience a multitude of different animals from the land, sea and air. Having Tom as your guide and captain, one will get to hear the legends and stories about the animals that the Kwakwaka’wakw (Kwakiutl) Indians have shared the area with for thousands of years. We are the only boat tour company working the Johnston Strait’s that has an aboriginal to share their stories with the visitors that come to the region to see the eagles, bears, whales, and other wildlife during the marine tour. Seeing orcas or grizzly bears with the boat stopped, and Tom sharing his families legends about the creatures as you observe the animals in their natural environment, makes for a thrilling, entertaining, and unique experience.

An adventure on the waters with Tom, one will feel as though they have stepped back in time as they hear stories that have been passed down through countless generations. Hearing how the First Nations regard the creatures from the animal kingdom, one will understand why throughout the world people seek their carvings, paintings, jewelry and other forms of art. Hearing Tom’s own personal life's experiences from the area you travel through, you will realize just how unique of a tour you are on. Tom always likes his guests aboard ship to know, “That even in this modern world - true Indian guides still exist!”

Light picnic lunch plus bottled water included.
